What is the Boston Comedy Arts Festival?

BCAF is a week long festival honoring comedians from all over the world in improv, sketch, standup, musical improv and more. Each night carries new adventures and features performers from Boston to Los Angeles and across the world.

How much are tickets?

Tickets range from $14-22.

Where are the shows?

ImprovBoston is very excited to host over 100 performers on multiple stages. Most BCAF shows will be on our home turf in Central Square (40 Prospect Street, Cambridge), while a handful of them will be at additional theaters across town.

How long are most shows?

BCAF shows are all about 75 minutes.

What is the age limit at ImprovBoston?

We are a traditional theater and we have no minimum age requirement.
We recommend that audience members be 16+ for all shows, with the exception of the 4pm Family Show and 6pm All Access Improv show on Saturday. This show is family friendly.

Do you serve alcohol at ImprovBoston?

We have a beer and wine bar and also sell snacks and soda. Outside alcohol is prohibited, of course. The Brattle Theater serves beer and wine, as well.

What is your ticket purchase policy?

Tickets purchased are non-refundable and non-transferrable. If a show is canceled due to weather we will gladly exchange your purchase for another show.

What T stop are you close to?

To ImprovBoston: take the Red Line T to Central Square. Walk half a block down Prospect Street to ImprovBoston. Directions

How do I get to the Cambridge Public Library?

To get there by foot, walk north on prospect street (past Whole Foods). Then, take a left on Broadway. 15 minutes later, boom, you’re there.
To get there by public transit, simply take the red line one stop outbound to Harvard Square. Head east on Broadway for 3 blocks.
Our ushers will greet you at the door to the library and get you to the theater.

How far from Boston are you?

Central Square is three stops on the Red Line from Park Street. From downtown we are a 10-15 minute drive, depending on traffic.

Where can I park?

There are a number of public lots around Central Square. There is also a city-run garage and ample street parking. A map to recommended parking areas

Will I be forced to participate in your shows?

No. While some of the BCAF shows are improv and based on audience input, participation is never required.

For regular weekly shows, do I need to purchase tickets on-line with a credit card?

Advanced tickets are only available ONLINE. There are no extra fees for booking your tickets online. You may also buy tickets in person ON THE DAY OF THE SHOW.

Performer FAQs

As a Boston Comedy Arts Festival performer, what is the policy about me watching shows at the fesival?

As a BCAF performer, with your performer ID, you will receive STAND-BY access for all shows at ImprovBoston and other participating theaters. That means any open seats available AT SHOWTIME are opened up to the active STAND-BY list at the discretion of Staff. However, the only way to ensure that you get seats for a particular show is to buy a ticket. As a BCAF performer you can buy advance tickets for any festival show for 50% OFF. (Details on how to score 50% off tickets will be announced soon.)

There are NO complimentary tickets for Boston Comedy Arts Festival shows. Advance “BCAF performer” tickets purchased for shows are non-transferable and non-refundable if a show ends up not sold out.

I am in an improv or sketch group and I have concerns about the tech part of my show. What should I do?

The BCAF Tech Director will reach out to all acts directly to determine your tech needs. We will do our very best to accommodate your specific needs and get you some tech time prior to your performance, if at all possible.

As a performer, do I get a discount on workshops?

All BCAF performers receive a great discount on festival workshops. (Details on how to score discount workshops and our BCAF Workshop Schedule will be announced soon.)

Where are the parties?

Each group will receive a list of the after parties when they check in. We will also be sending out an email once a day during the festival – with festival updates, workshop info, and after party details.
